Workshop One - Lisburn Community Self Build

Workshop One - Lisburn Community Self Build

Lisburn Community Self Build is a Limited Company by Guarantee without a Share Capital.  The Company operates as a Social Economy business with the main aim of providing employment opportunities, job training and educational services to local people through Lisburn-based construction projects.
The Company was established in December 2000 and has been involved in numerous building projects providing much needed housing for the Lisburn community and has seen scores of young people trained to various levels of skills within the construction sector.
Moving to Laganview Enterprise Centre is an exciting diversification of the Company which has seen the establishment of a training workshop for young people producing wooden-type garden furniture.  This is currently on display on the grounds of the centre.

Lisburn Community Self Build was recently recognised with the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (2011), one of only 130 organisations to be honoured in the entire UK.

Recently the company also took a top prize in the annual IPB All-Island Pride of Place Awards (nov 2013).  They received the top award in Category 5 of the Cities Competition, which is a Single Issue Category for Enterprise and Youth Projects.

Looking to the future LCSB has set up a new "trading as" name which is Servo Contract Services NI.  We feel this is an important step to help us further penetrate the private and commercial markets available to us.  We envisage that this will help us create further employment for our community.  Servo provide a number of services which include security, buidling, cleaning and ground maintenance.  We are always on the lookout for potential employees so if you have any experience in these areas please email your CV to info@servocontractservices.co.uk.

Workshop 3 - Resurgam Trust Empowering Youth Project

Workshop 3 - Resurgam Trust Empowering Youth Project

In March 2013 The Resurgam Trust launched a new 5 year project that will empower young people to take control of their future. The project involves numerous 12 week personal development and employability programmes throughout the year the project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund. The project will engage with young people from the Lisburn Area who are about to leave school and feel they have no awareness of the direction they want their future to take.

The programme will encourage young people to plan and set goals for their future which will be aided by them completing the GOALS UK OCN accredited course. Young people will then prepare for the world of work by improving their employability skills and looking at the benefits of working.

Alison Holdsworth, projects training officer said “This project comes at a good time for young people who in the current economic climate feel a lack optimism about their future career opportunities. The Empowering Youth Project will plant a seed of hope within these young people and show them that they hold the keys to their own future, they just need to become aware how to use the keys and that is what they will gain from the Empowering Youth Project”.

Resurgam Trust already have a number of social enterprises and are currently developing a number of further ones. The young people involved in the project will have the opportunity to sample placements within these companies in a number of roles in order to determine the suitability of the job. This will help young people discover the direction they wish their further education or work experience to take and project staff will mentor them and help them in arrange this.

Our hope is that some of these young people will be our future employees as the project also involves taking some of the young people on in a placement position for a number of years whilst they develop their skills.

For further details on the project please contact 028 9266 3281 or email vince.curry@resurgamtrust.co.uk or alison.holdsworth@resurgamtrust.co.uk.
